An Enemy of the People
When Dr Stockmann discovers that the water in his small Norwegian town is poisoned, he does what any good citizen would do: reports it to the authorities. But Stockmann’s good deed has the potential to ruin the town’s reputation as a spa destination, and instead of being hailed as a hero, he is labelled an enemy of the people. Written, like The Crucible, during the McCarthy witch-hunts of 1950s America, Miller’s adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s drama is a timeless exploration of truth and tyranny.
